We've upgraded our School blog and some recent posts were lost, so here's a bit of what has gone on lately.

We took the children on a field trip to Our Way Ceramics. Each student bought a molded piece of greenware, brought it back to school and after Pastor Bob fired it in the kiln, they were able to glaze it. The students also saw how to make a mold and open it. It was very instructional and fun.

We also had a school wide science experiment mixing Mentos and Diet Pepsi and watching it explode over Pastor Bob.

We just finished taking pictures for the school children.

We came back from the ACSI Convention this week and are now enjoying our Thanksgiving Vacation.

Have a wonderful time with your families.

Don't forget our Parent's meeting is on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. You will be receiving important information and hand outs. It is also the place to get your child's uniform T-shirts ordered. See you there!

We have successfully used our Distance Learning program for our summer school program and it's going quite well. We look forward to being able to use this for homework again this year as well as summer school and home schooling.

Our Easter vacation starts on Friday and continues through the week after Easter - April 14 through April 21. Have a great holiday!
We have beta tested our Distance Learning program for one semester and it has gone very well. We are now able to home school students who have computers through this program. It also is a great complement to our regular campus students who now have a very easy way to do their homework on their own computers. This also is a boon to students who are ill for extended periods of time. Often they can still work at home on the computer. It has been a great new service for our students and parents. Feel free to inquire if you wish to add this to your child's program or if you are interested in home schooling through this online distance learning program.

All parents of high school students should be aware that the State of California now requires all high school students to pass Algebra to graduate. Public schools must have all students pass an exit exam to graduate. As of this time, private schools are not required to give exit exams to their students.

One in five might not graduate in 2006
By Kevin Butler
Staff writer

LONG BEACH — More than one-fifth of California's high school seniors are at risk of not graduating because they have not passed the exit exam required for a diploma, according to a state-commissioned independent study released Friday.
Nearly 100,000 seniors began the school year without having passed the high school exit exam, a graduation requirement starting in 2006, according to the report.

Perhaps half of that number ultimately won't don caps and gowns this summer, including substantial numbers of disabled students and those not fluent in English, according to the report by the Human Resources Research Organization.

In the Long Beach Unified School District, 25 percent of high school seniors 1,615 began this school year having not passed the exam, which includes an English and math component, according to district officials.

The LBUSD and other area school districts have created special classes during the day, after school and on Saturdays to prepare the struggling seniors.

"I think given what we know about how to prepare kids for the test, we are doing an effective job," said Lynn Winters, LBUSD assistant superintendent of research.

Seniors will get up to three more opportunities to pass the exam before graduation time.

In the Downey Unified School District, 23 percent of seniors have not passed. The figure is 26 percent in the Norwalk-La Mirada District. In the ABC Unified School District, 19 percent haven't passed, but that figure does not include special education students.

The independent evaluator used estimates to calculate the passing rates because the state lacks unique student identifiers and cannot track individual pupils.

The estimates may be two percentage points higher or lower than the actual totals, the organization reported.

Forty-nine percent of California's English-language learners and 65 percent of special education students have not passed the test, the report stated.

Blacks and Latinos also have struggled. Thirty-seven percent of black seniors and 32 percent of Latinos haven't passed, the report estimated.

Economically disadvantaged seniors also have fallen behind, with 34 percent not passing the exam.

The report noted that among special education students, those

with more severe disabilities are faring worse on the test than those who are able to spend more time in regular classrooms.

The report fuels a growing debate about the extent of alternatives that should be offered to seniors who fail to graduate this summer. Among the possible options for those seniors is an alternative diploma or graduation certificate, the report said.

The LBUSD has a certificate of completion, but only for special education students, Winters said.

Extending the certificate to other students would require a change in state law, she said.

The report's other suggestions include completing a senior-year portfolio project, successfully finishing a special summer course after 12th grade and taking additional years of high school.

In the LBUSD, seniors who don't pass the test at graduation time can study at adult schools for future tries at the exam.

Jack O'Connell, state superintendent of public instruction, said the state Department of Education will study the alternatives suggested in the report, but that the exam requirement is still in place.

"While it is appropriate to consider these options, it is critical that in doing so we keep one core principle front and center: Awarding a student a diploma without the knowledge and skills to back it up does a great disservice to that student," he said.

The discussion of alternatives should not be seen as a license for seniors to "slack off," said Hilary McLean, spokeswoman for the state Department of Education. Students will still have to show mastery of the test concepts, she said.

"The California high school exit exam is here to stay," she said.

Our school is off to a good start. We have a great bunch of students this year. Something exciting is in the air. As you all know, our curriculum, grades 3-12, is mostly computerized, which is exciting in itself. But soon we hope to offer students and parents the opportunity to do their homework online if they have a broadband connection. We are installing a DSL line next week and after we beta test it, we should be on our way to offering this.

What's even better is that we will be able to offer Distance Learning to anyone in the country or the world, for that matter, who has a broadband connection. After installing some software, people can homeschool through our school, taking all their classes through us with a live teacher on the other side, standing by to help them. Stay tuned for more information.

Silent Auction

You won't want to miss our Silent Auction Fundraiser. Prior to our 7:30 meeting, we will have our Silent Auction at 7:00 p.m. When you enter the cafeteria, you will see tables with items on them. In front of each item will be a paper with lines for you to write on. The first person will sign their name and what they would like to bid on that item. Another person comes by and if he's willing to pay more for that item, he puts his name down and what he will pay/bid for the item etc. Sometime before we go in to the Parent's Meeting a bell will ring from a timer. When it goes off, all bids are final and people with the highest bids get the item at that price. There are many nice items that I think you'll like.

Pastor Bob
Parent's Meeting

Be sure to attend the Parent's Meeting on September 8, which is a Thursday. It is here that you will receive your menus, school year calendar etc.

Every year parents complain to me about not knowing things and I say, "We discussed it at the Parent's Meeting. Were you there?"

School starts at 8:30 a.m. on September 12. Please make sure the kids are well prepared. You need to be at the School's Parent Night on Thursday, Sept. 8. We will be giving you the new school handbook, going over changes we have made for the new year. There are things you will need to buy by Monday. Children on computers, mostly grades 3-12, need to bring a set of headphones, a new mousepad, and an optional new mouse.

We will be taking an order for new school T-Shirts at this time as well. Until the new school uniforms are ready, you will need to use last year's t-shirts or solid red or white polo shirts with the blue or black pants.

Thursday, August 04, 2005

Summer School is almost over! There will be a Parents Meeting on Sept. 8. School begins on Sept. 12.

All students in grades 3-12 will need their own set of headphones. No sharing. Students also need their own Bible, which is to be brought to school every day for chapels.

All September tuition, registration and curriculum must be paid before August 31. Student are not enrolled in class until registration has been paid, all paperwork has been completed and the first month's tuition has been paid.

Two new electives:

Arizona School Will Not Use Textbooks

Jul 11, 7:26 AM (ET)

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A high school in Vail will become the state's first all-wireless, all-laptop public school this fall. The 350 students at the school will not have traditional textbooks. Instead, they will use electronic and online articles as part of more traditional teacher lesson plans.
Vail Unified School District's decision to go with an all-electronic school is rare, experts say. Often, cost, insecurity, ignorance and institutional constraints prevent schools from making the leap away from paper.
"The efforts are very sporadic," said Mark Schneiderman, director of education policy for the Software and Information Industry Association. "A minority of communities are doing a good or very good job, but a large number are just not there on a number of levels."
Calvin Baker, superintendent of Vail Unified School District, said the move to electronic materials gets teachers away from the habit of simply marching through a textbook each year.
He noted that the AIMS test now makes the state standards the curriculum, not textbooks. Arizona students will soon need to pass Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards to graduate from high school.
But the move to laptops is not cheap. The laptops cost $850 each, and the district will hand them to 350 students for the entire year. The fast-growing district hopes to have 750 students at the high school eventually.
A set of textbooks runs about $500 to $600, Baker said.
It's not clear how the change to laptops will work, he conceded.
"I'm sure there are going to be some adjustments. But we visited other schools using laptops. And at the schools with laptops, students were just more engaged than at non-laptop schools," he said.

Dear Parents,

Many of you like to plan your vacation times around ours. There will be a major change this year. The last few years we have taken off 2 days in September to attend out Teacher/Staff training sessions with Alpha Omega. This year, instead of having a separate session, Mr. Kneeland has advised me that AOP is going to hold their classes at the annual ACSI convention in Anaheim. Here is some information about that event:

ACSI Anaheim Convention 2005

Convention Date: Monday and Tuesday, November 21-22
Speakers

Each year, approximately 8,000 Christian School educators attend the ACSI Anaheim Convention located at the Anaheim Convention Center. The Convention features three inspiring general sessions, more than 500 seminars on distinctive topics pertinent to educators, and approximately 350 exhibitors.

As members of ACSI, we will be attending this event instead of the previous one in September. Therefore, Grace Christian Schools will be closed the entire week of Thanksgiving. We will be at the ACSI convention on Monday and Tuesday, receiving our training and we will be closed on Wed., Thurs. and Friday for Thanksgiving. This will be easier for all of us and keeps the days off together in one week. I have never liked to have to stop in September to go to training right after school has begun. So, please plan your vacation or babysitting accordingly.

Monday, June 20, 2005

Parents,

Please make sure you get your July tuition payments in on time, July 1st, so we can make payroll for our staff. Traditionally, some have been slow to make this last payment because school is out, but that doesn't help us meet our obligations.

Be sure to register in June for next year to save $25.00. Returning students keep the old rate if they prepay, but this is the last month. We need to know who is coming back so we can know how many empty spots we have for new students and in which grade levels they will be.

Thank you for your prompt attention to these matters.

CAT (California Achievement Test) is being taken on Thursday & Friday, May 12 and 13. The cost of the test is $16.50. These tests are required by our curriculum company, AOP, so they can evaluate the progress of all their students who are using their curriculum.

There was a problem with the materials sent to us EPSW. We were not able to administer the tests for 3rd graders as we did not receive the adminstration booklet for them and it is different from all the rest of the student's books. We will test 3rd graders next week.

Sorry for the mixup.

CAT Testing Coming Up

Parents, the time is coming for the California Achievement Testing. We do this every year. It is required of us as an "Excel" rated school. It also helps to keep your curriculum costs down.

These tests are very important. When I send out a transcript for your child, they always want these test scores.

The test has changed a lot for this year. Last year the test we took was the last in that series. The test has been renamed and restructured to fit with new standards being set by the government.

1. Every child must take this test. They start with Kindergarten and go through the 12th grade.

2. The test is important. Many students don't try very hard because they think the test is boring. The test does take several hours to take. But it is so important. I've had bright students look like they are several years below grade level because they just didn't want to take the test. The only person they hurt is themselves. For example, if you were to move and you wished to put your child in another private school, they might be rejected because of their low results, even if they are really above grade level. They could also be kept from scholarship programs.

3. The test will cost more this year, but then the price will drop next year. The reason is we have to buy extra test materials this year because we no longer can use the answer keys and testing materials we used in past years. We will do our best to keep the costs down.

We will probably take the test in early May to keep aligned with last year's date.

More information will be coming.

Parents,

If you have a child in high school, you should read this article. Students in 11 and 12 grade should be taking these tests. Pastor Bob has the information you need. They are not taken at Grace. You will take them at a selected spot, usually a college, in your area.

Sweet Drinks Linked to Preschool Obesity - EarthLink - U.S. News

Very interesting article here on the effects of juices and sweet drinks on children in school.

Tuesday, February 01, 2005

We had an assembly this week following the close of the first semester. Many of our students have not kept up with their workload, causing many more incompletes on report cards than I like. So, we've added more class time and less play time for all students who are behind.

Parents, expect to see more homework coming home. Our system is built to not have a lot of homework IF the student does what is expected each day. When they fall behind, however, we have no choice but to start sending it home.

Please make sure your child does his homework each night. It costs us a lot to have to print it out. Students who do not show any progress in this area will be removed from the computer and put into books, making it easier to send homework home.

Don't forget that we have TWO showing of our Christmas program. One on Friday night @ 7:00 p.m. Students should be at the church at 6:30 p.m. Then we will be doing the program once more on Sunday morning, Dec. 19 @ 9:30 a.m. Students should be at the church at 9:00 a.m. We think you are really going to enjoy the children's program this year.

Also, we are asking students to come dressed as they will for the performances on Friday during school. We will be filming the dress rehearsal and need it to look at authentic as possible.

We'll be looking for you. Make sure you invite friends and family to the program.

Parental Notice - Christmas Day Care
Grace Christian Schools

Dear Parents,

Last week we polled you on Day Care during Christmas Vacation. Only two parents indicated they would be using day care at this time. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to stay open for only two students, so we will not be open at all during the vacation time.

We wanted to give you ample notice so you could get someone to watch your children during the vacation period.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause you.

Sincerely,

Pastor Bob Rockhill

Pottery Class

Please don't forget that tomorrow, Wed. Dec. 1, we will be having our pottery field trip. Each student needs to bring $15.00 to participate. This is an all school activity. We will be taking pictures and video of the event.

Pastor Bob

Tuesday, November 23, 2004

Parents,

You should be receiving a flyer tonight with your child regarding our Pottery Field Trip next Wednesday, Dec. 1st. Each student should bring $15.00 for the event which will cover the cost of the clay, 2 firings in the kiln, glaze, return of project to the school and an exciting assembly for the students. Please start bringing in the $15.00 fee on Monday. This is considered a field trip as it is an educational experience in the arts that most of the students have never witnessed before. Students may wish to bring a large t-shirt to use as an art smock. The process isn't that messy, but if they touch their clothes while working on the potter's wheel, they will get themselves dirty.

Monday, November 22, 2004

I thought some parents might like to know what's happening with some of our alumni from last year.

Alan Twing came by church last week to say hi. He's signed up for the Navy and will be heading out, I believe he said, in 6 months for boot camp.

Robert Fernandez and Anthony Badami are both in Graphic Design schools working on Macs and loving their classes so far.

Robert Wainwright is attending a school of broadcasting.

David Sotello came by the other day. He was working at UPS, but recently got a new job and I can't remember where...maybe Home Depot? The memory is going...

Announcement: High School Parents

Some of you were asking at conferences about the literature class. Each jr. & sr. high student has been assigned a book to read. They are to read through at least the first chapter by Monday, November 22, and turn in a summary of that chapter.

Hope that helps. They will be doing a chapter by chapter summary to ensure they are keeping up on the book and that they actually read the entire book. (Some didn't last time) Obviously, they are going to have to do a few chapters a week to keep up.

Also, some students have not taken advantage of extra credit assignments and projects offered to them. Parents were surprised by that. I offered several Extra Credit assignments the first quarter on the Presidential Election that covered history and English. You might want to tell your son or daughter that you want them to do the extra credit if they are struggling.

Today we enter day two of our Parent/Teacher Conferences. We had a good day spending time with parents, talking about the success stories of their children and helping to fine tune any problems we may be having. Overall, things are looking very good at Grace and we thank you for your support.

We have received the highest rating by Alpha Omega for our school. This not only makes us happy, but should make you feel happy to know our school is keeping high standards for each child. We have had two students move away, so we have a place for a couple of new students. If you know someone who you think would do well at our school, please have them contact us and we'd be glad to work with them - Pastor Bob

Mel Rockhill update

Some of you have been wondering about Pastor Bob's dad, Mel Rockhill, who is an elder in our church and has taught classes in the past at Grace Christian. Dad was found to have fluid around his heart. After rushing him to the hospital, he was admitted to St. Judes in Fullerton, where Connie Rockhill works. About 2 quarts of fluid was drained from around his heart. He is feeling well and should be coming home soon. Thank you all for your prayers and concern.
Field Trip Plans

As of Tuesday, it appears we will switch the Pumpkin Patch field trip to Friday. Weatherman says it will rain on Friday. We figure the ground will be somewhat dry by Friday. The children are disappointed we have to postpone the trip, but I suppose they'll learn a bit about life from this as they do each day. Thanks for understanding.

Extra Credit

Elementary, Jr. High, and High School students were given an extra credit assignment. If they choose to do it, they can receive up to 10% of extra credit on a unit history test. They were each given a page of instructions. They should NOT try to write the answers on the page I gave them. It is too small.

Our effort in this assgnment is to stimulate critical thinking skills. It is fine with me if children and parents wish to discuss the Presidential they are to watch tonight before the student writes the report. We just ask that all the work be the student's original work, even if it reflects what was discussed in the family.

Thank you,

Pastor Bob

Thursday, September 23, 2004

Dear Parents,

Remember that the fundraiser orders are due on Friday. Please have your order sheet filled in completely along with the checks from those who ordered. If you can't get it in by Friday, Monday is the absolutely last day for your child to get credit.

Thanks,

Tuesday, September 14, 2004

We need to make an adjustment to our Yearly Calendar we handed out at the Parent's Meeting. There is a mistake concerning the Professional Growth Seminar our teachers need to attend next week. We had the dates as September 21 and 22. It should read September 20 and 21. You'll find this on the School Menu as well. The school will be closed on this coming Monday and Tuesday. The lunch on the 20th, Chicken Nuggets, will be prepared for Wednesday, instead of Monday.

Parents,

Don't forget that Tuesday is Picture Day. A variety of packages are offered. Pick the one that suits you best. If you do not want to order pictures, we still need to take one of your child for our records. Please send students in uniform for their class photo. They can wear something nicer for their individual photos.

If you weren't at the meeting, here's a recap:

1. School T-shirts are now available. We have already put in the order, so we can't do another order until we have 24 more units. T-shirts are red or white with the new school logo on them. T-shirts are $7.00 for Youth S,M,L and Adult S,M, L.
XL, XX, XXX are $3.00 more.

Crew neck fleece in Red or white, same sizes are $15.00. $3.00 more for XL, XX, XXX.

Hooded Fleece Jackets are available for $21.00. They are same sizes and colors and come either with or without a zipper.

2. I forgot to mention that each student needs to bring their own set of Headphones. I found them at Office Max for under $7.00 with a 7' cable.

3. No Cell Phones at school, period.

4. No CD Players at school, period.

5. No game boys or other game equipment or electronical devices until after school.

6. Wednesday, Sept. 8 will be an orientation day. Students will probably not be on the computer that day, but will do some book work. We will need to interview students for electives and that will have to be added to the computer program.

7. If it is warm, we may have a swim party on Friday to help the new students get to know the continuing students better. Details will follow.

8. Each student should bring one family sized Kleenex tissue box to share with class.

9. If you didn't pay for your curriculum by August 23, it may be late. That was our deadline. No books are ordered until paid for.

10. If you have any questions, please email Pastor Bob here or simply respond on the GraceBlog and I will be notified by email.

Thursday, August 19, 2004

Please remember that you will be given an opportunity at the Parent's meeting to order T-shirts with a new Grace Christian Logo on them. The T-shirts will be only $7.00 for a red or white one.

I spoke yesterday with the company making them and you can also order, at the same time, sweat shirts in the same colors. Some of our children are always cold and others are always hot, so this gives you some flexibility. These will be $10.00 and they are the crew type, pull over. There are many other options. I hope to have them at the Parent meeting. Perhaps some students would like fleece jackets with hoods, for example. They can be purchased. The important thing to remember, however, is that I have to order them in lots of 50. So, you should be thinking for the whole school year, because if you want more shirts later, they are likely to cost you much more unless we get another order in for 50. There will be examples of T-shirts and crew neck Fleece for you to see when you come.

If you have further ideas for school clothing we might order, let me know.

We are excited to announce a new addition to our electives this year at Grace. We will be adding a new Spanish class that I believe our students will really like. There will be one class for grades 1-6 and another for grades 7-12. These classes are very different from the computerized AOP Spanish classes that some of the students have taken. They are very traditional and grammar based, but also very difficult if one does not have an aptitude for learning languages.

These classes will be book based. They will be included in your current curriculum fee. They are conversational Spanish that should be very easy for the students to grasp quickly. Pastor Bob will teach the classes. He has experimented with them with his two children, Elizabeth (5) and Zack (13). They both found the classes to be easy and fun. In fact, they didn't want to stop the lessons!

Because these classes are necessary for high school and Jr. High, we will make them mandatory. Each high school student needs 20 credits of language, drama or speech. For most students, they will need 15 credits of Spanish and 5 of Speech. We will discuss this more at the Parent's meeting on Aug. 27.

Good News!

The school has ordered T-shirts with our new logo on them. You will be able to see them at the parent meeting on Aug. 27th. They will cost just $7.00. They will come in either Red or White for students and Navy blue for Teachers. This is an "Official" alternative to the polo shirts that some students do not like to wear, but will still be considered "in uniform".

So, if you haven't purchased your school clothing yet, you may wish to wait and order these. If we order them at the Parent Meeting, they should be ready by the 1st day of school. So, please bring your checkbook if you think this will be of interest to you. It will cost MUCH more if you don't order them together. We get a break if we get an order of 50 in at one time. SO, I would think ahead for the entire school year, if I were you.

Have a great rest of the summer.

I thought this would be interesting to share. Someone out there is trying to catch up with our school! :-)

MacDailyNews - News - Welcome Home: "4,500 Apple iBooks going to south Florida students

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 - 03:00 PM EDT

'Within a few months, 4,500 Broward students -- some as young as 9 -- will be on the front lines of a technological revolution in the county's classrooms. Each student in the pilot project will be issued an Apple iBook computer,' Steve Harrison reports for The Miami Herald.

'The School Board has spent $5 million from its capital budget for the iBooks -- the first step toward putting a personal computer in the hands of every child in grades 3 to 12,' Harrison reports. 'School officials caution they're still working on details of what's called one-to-one computing, which is planned for Monarch High in Coconut Creek, Miramar High, Attucks Middle in Hollywood and Broward Estates Elementary in Fort Lauderdale.'

Parents often ask what they should send with their children in regards to supplies.

I. Students should have a back pack. It helps a lot.

II. Students should bring a supply of pencils (1 for each day of the year. They lose one a day it seems.) lined paper, eraser, ruler, King James Bible, colored pencils or markers and they should have a book to read (novel) for their book reports.

III. A pocket dictionary is a good thing to bring.

IV. Lunch/snack money as needed.

New Uniform Requirements for September 8, 2004.

This coming year students may wear as uniforms the following:

Blue OR black pants. Pants must fit. Belts should be worn. No sagging, no hip huggers. Must come up to waist. Not too tight, not too baggy.

Polo Shirts may be Red or White. Must cover the tummy completely. For hot weather we will be offering some Grace Christian T-Shirts. They will have the school logo on them. We will announce the cost here as soon as we know. They won't be very expensive. They are the only T-shirts that can be worn at school.

Many students resorted to wearing jackets all day long so they weren't showing a uniform shirt. This is all right outside, but they need to wear the polo shirts in the classroom.

Tennis shoes are the only allowed shoes on campus except for medical reasons such as a broken toe that requires a sandal etc.

No denim, Levi type cloth for the pants. No faded looking jeans that are called "blue pants" by students. Pants must be navy blue pants, the same color as standard uniform pants sold in stores. But we do not require you to buy "Official" uniform pants, which are quite expensive.

Students who do not have a uniform, whether because it is dirty or destroyed, may not come to school. Please keep students home if they do not have a uniform. They will not be allowed in the classroom.

Feel free to throw a birthday party at our school!

All you have to do is ask. Several parents have opted to hold their child's birthday party at our school during lunch. This guarantees there will be children there! You can bring cup cakes, ice cream, a cake, cookies, a jumper, a clown, whatever you want. We just ask you do it around lunch time. Some parents bring lunch, such as pizza. Others wait until the children eat their regular lunch and then have a party.

Grace News Update:

Lots of exciting things are happening at Grace! We are closing the enrollment for high school and elementary school at this time. Unless we can fit more computer in the classroom and hire an aide, we can't handle anymore students. We still have room in K-2.

There are a few people who have already come and tested. They will be able to come next year, but it doesn't look like we can handle many more. If you know of anyone wanting to come to Grace next year, get them to call this week.

Any parents of continuing students who have not pre-registered for next year are losing their places and will go on a waiting list. Not much I can do about that. If we have not had an indication that your child is returning, we must assume he/she is not returning and give the space to someone who wants to come. So, please, any parents wanting to send your child back next year, you need to contact the office manager, Tennie Rockhill, immediately.

I will send out one last notice by mail to those we have not heard from. We will have to buy several new computers simply to accommodate those new students.

I'll be putting up some new web pages as well. The current one will be removed soon. You will be notified when it is ready.

Unfortunately, the computers are still down as of Monday evening. I worked on them Friday, Saturday, and all day Monday. Joey and a network guru friend of mine worked on them all day today and we almost are finished. The hard drive crashed after 3 years of daily use. That's to be expected. But putting it all back together has taken more time than I would like. Our backup is giving us trouble, so the people at AOP are working on it for us. I see a need for us to install a cable modem line upstairs. If we had a broadband connection, AOP could have fixed everything for us over the internet. How cool is that? So, we are investigating that option for the fall. Praying for things to be up on Wed. No high school for Tuesday.

Had some bad news Friday. The server for our computerized curriculum went down. I tried to fix it, but a teacher called in sick and I had to teach most of the day. Joey and I will be up at the school on Saturday trying to fix it. Sorry for the inconvenience. We've been very fortunate the last 3 years to have had such a stable situation.

BobBlog: "Summer Day Care and Summer School

At this point, we only have 5 parents who have indicated they need summer day care service. We will decide Friday if we are going to have it. We are way short of the number we need to make summer day care profitable, so at this point I sincerely doubt we will be having a summer program of any kind this year. We want to give you plenty of time to find other resources if you need them this summer.

Parents:

We need to have the money for the dinners for graduation by June 1st. Thanks,

Pastor Bob

Monday, May 10, 2004

We have been asking parents to comment to us about the summer. We must have a minimum of 12 students to offer any summer day care. If we do not reach that number, we will be closed for the entire summer and parents will need to make other arrangements for the summer. Please respond immediately if you are planning to send your child to Summer Day Care. We must arrange for staffing now if we are going to have it in effect.
Graduation will take place at the Sequoia Conference Center located on Orangethorpe and Beach Blvd. in Buena Park. Enter in the front entrance facing Orangethorpe. (Take Beach Blvd. south to Orangethorpe, turn right onto Orangethorpe. When you enter the front entrance you will see stairs to your left. We will be up at the top of the stairs.
Graduation Information:

Graduation will be on June 18 at 7:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at that time. About an hour later the ceremony will begin in a separate room. We really need parents to sign up for the dinner. We must get 75 people to order dinner or we will have to charge for seats to the ceremony.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. we will have our awards banquet and some entertainment from some of our students. Then we will have the Awards banquet followed by the graduation itself.
Graduation information:

Caps and Gowns will be $25.00 per graduate. The gowns are blue and the tassle is gold. Students will be able to keep the entire cap and gown. They are no longer rented, but purchased outright by the student.

Students must submit their height and weight to receive the correct size gown and cap.
Several parents have complained that their children do not bring home any announcements or bulletins from school. We usually send one or two letters home each week. If you are not getting your information from your children, you may request them emailed to you. We will send them in PDF format, which can be opened on any computer platform. Simply respond here and ask for the service or send a note to the school..
