We are changing the way we produce and order lunches at Grace for the year 2003/2004. Instead of the time consuming lunches we cooked on site last year, we will return to the popular prepared items that the students enjoyed in years past. This will save us time and money. However, buying the correct amount of food ahead of time is vital to making this a success. Buying extra packages of food products that go unused for a month is costly for us. Therefore, we are going to have one set lunch. It will consist of a main item, a snack item, a fruit or vegetable item and a beverage. In grades K4-3rd grade, we will have smaller portions and the cost will be $2.00. For grades 4-12, we will charge $3.00. This is really the same price as before since almost all children bought a snack item and a beverage. Beverages for the younger children will be milk or juice. Older children will be able to get sodas unless their parents don't want them to consume them at school.
The big change is that parents will need to preorder for a month. Again, this is necessary or we will not know how much to buy. Some items, such as French Bread Pizza, are extremely popular while others are not. You will receive a monthly menu calendar. You will need to circle the days your child will be buying lunch. You will need to pay in advance. This allows us to buy in bulk. Then you won't need to bother with lunch for another month. If a child wants to buy lunch when they have not preordered, they will be limited to a cup-a-noodles serving for fifty cents. That is going to be our emergency lunch. All children need to eat a lunch each day, regardless of whether they bring or buy it. Children who do not eat a lunch tend to slow down and get rather crabby by the end of the day. And we don't don't want crabby children, do we? :-)
A typical lunch will be: K4-3rd Grade
